NBN Battery Failed. Here’s what you need to know.

As part of the NBN rollout, many homes & businesses were supplied with a battery backup in the event of a power outage. Like all batteries, NBN batteries too have a shelf life. We see many posts on Facebook in Bacchus Marsh & Melton asking why their NBN box is beeping or where to buy replacement batteries. This is then commented on by the masses stating all types of conflicting information. We’re posting this to help set the record straight.

Q: Will the internet & phone still work if the power goes out?
A: The internet to the NBN box will continue to work however, the NBN battery will not power your providers modem or your telephone if its plugged into the modem.

Q: Why do I need the battery?
A: The battery in general terms isn’t needed unless you have a specific reason to have it. These reasons include Back to base alarm system, Health alarm system, Non powered phone plugged directly into NBN box or Businesses with backup power in power outage situations.

Q: If I don’t have one of those reason, do I need the battery?
A: In short, No. You can hit the silence alarm or simply unplug the battery.

Q: Can I get power backup for my modem, so I can still use my laptop in the event of a power outage?
A: Yes. Melton Computers can supply a power backup system to power a modem in this instance.

Q: Where can I get a new battery?
A: Many places sell NBN batteries including Melton Computers.

Q: How much does a new battery cost?
A: We sell batteries for $49 delivered or $69 delivered & installed in Melton or Bacchus Marsh.

Q: What do I do with the old battery?
A: Batteries are not to put in the bin. Instead, they should be recycled at a specialist recycle centre. Melton Computers will take care of this when we replace an old battery for you.
