Windows 11 – Continues to grow in popularity

In November, it was estimated that Windows 11 was the main operating system on 8.3% of the worlds computers. Since then, numbers have doubled to 16.1%.

It’s obvious that Windows 11 is here and it’s here to stay.

Like Windows 10, some people are finding their computers are automatically upgrading to Windows 11. While the upgrade is free, it’s not without risk.

Any major update has a risk of data loss and failure. A faulty disk, an install error, a user not realizing and switching a computer off are all examples of how things can go wrong.

Our advice before upgrading… Backup your data so if there is a failure, recovery is simple.

Windows 11 has ticked many boxes. It looks and feels like Windows 10, but is much more security focused and has little visual tweaks that many people don’t actually notice.

New features are on the way too, with some tech wizards fining clues in the files included with Windows 11. For example, Stickers, desktop controls and a new tablet mode said to be on the way.

So, is Windows 11 right for you? We say yes but there’s a catch.

Windows 11 is designed to run on modern hardware. Computers 2 to 3 years old should cover this off, but computers older may struggle.

Not to worry though, you won’t need to race out and buy a new computer or laptop today. Windows 10 will be covered by Microsoft until October 2025.
