Ransomware Targets Android Users

Ransomware has been in the news due to crippling outdated Windows computers around the world. The WannaCry Ransomware which caused havoc all over the globe is probably the most well-known. Now there is a new one to watch out for and its targeting Android users.
If you use an Android phone, please read on. The Ransomware that’s targeting Android users was found by researchers. The Ransomware is spreading via SMS & popular forums across the internet. Known as Andriod/Filecoder.C, this Ransomware virus has been in circulation for around a three months.

Once on your device, the ransomware accesses the contact list on your phone and sends a message to everyone you have saved. This allows the virus to spread effortlessly to unsuspecting people.
The ransomware will then lock out your files, and display a screen showing you how to ‘unlock’ them. If you don’t pay the bitcoin ransom within 72 hours, your files are gone.
Avoidance is the best policy; however, we always recommend having a recent backup of your phone in case things like this happen.
